Only a few moments prior to boarding the plane, I spoke with a father who traveled 48 weeks out of every year on business. My own job as a software engineer often takes me away from wife and eight children. Like many others in the business world, I am a "jet lag dad." After taking my seat on the plane, I heard a father talking rather loudly to his daughter on a cell phone. He began with pleasantries, but before long he was giving her an angry verbal tongue-lashing over her college grades and threatening to withdraw support. At that moment, I determined that I would find ways to gain and keep the hearts of my children. Because I love Dads, I want to share lessons here I have learned on fatherhood in hopes of helping other Dads. If you are a Dad, then welcome to the biggest room in the world -- the room for IMPROVEMENT! I'll be adding a lot to this site in the next few months and I'm hoping you'll share your insights with me, so we can all capture the hearts of our children. There is no such thing as a successful father. But there are fathers who are succeeding one conversation, one child, one crisis, one decision at a time. My only qualification is that I am on the fatherhood journey with you and God has taught me a few lessons. I hope to learn from you, too.
